Not bad and not good December 7, 2008 Menchu Fernandez (Manila, Philippines) Scavenger Hunt was okay. It is a story in where there are two groups that are thrown into a deadly game. The book revealed some good secrets that were mentioned in the book but the plot is unrealistic.
A little too out there for me September 29, 2008 Shutter Maze (United States) It took me a while to read this book, partly because I had so much else to read but also because it just wasn't really that interesting. It's about a scavenger hunt from hell. It's got this supernatural/sci-fi angle. It's got an ending that is just beyond bizarre. It's got a weird spiritual angle that I still haven't figured out. Pike's books often talk about the power of love. In this book, it's mentioned in the end, but in a sort of superficial way that made me roll my eyes. This book has got a little love story between two characters who are apart for most of the book and only profess their love for each other at the very end when they're standing, literally, at death's door. It was hard to care about their love when we never really got to see them interact much with each other or even really think much about each other, except to wonder, occasionally, how the other was doing. I was very disappointed with the ending. There were some questions that were raised in the book that were never answered. There was a minor incest subplot (incest between non-humans) that was thrown in there and never resolved. It seemed like it was just placed in there to shock the reader. Or maybe I just didn't get the hidden meaning. I would not recommend this book unless you like Pike's supernatural plotlines that are a bit far-fetched and ridiculous. There's a little bit of the Pike wit in there, but not enough to compensate for the boring plot. The reason I gave this two stars is because it's obvious that some effort went into it. It's a little more sophisticated than your average YA horror book. But it may be a little too out there for many people.
Christopher Pike - a young reader's favorite June 26, 2007 AmandaC (Houston, TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I discovered Mr. Pike's books when I was about 12 or 13 years old back in the late 80s and was immediately hooked. I am 30 now, and remember how much I enjoyed his stories and how they were at just the right reading level for a young teen looking for a suspenseful, sometimes gory, and challenging storyline. I didn't care about stupid New Kids on the Block, I wanted to know how Pike's Final Friends trilogy was going to end. Who did it?! My friends and I had our own theories and analyzed the facts together. Mr. Pike is writing for the future fans of such writers as Patricia Cornwell and David Baldacci and I highly recommend him for any young, maturing reader.
Good but long May 25, 2005 Jman 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Scavenger hunt is about a boy who lost his best friend, ending up doing a scavenger hunt with his new friend,a girl named Cessy, and her brother. After clue number two, he only see's the team of his friend Tracie. It turns out his new friend is his best friend brought back to life, and Cessy and her brother are super smart dinasour things. They kill people to look human and stay alive.
One of the best I've read. April 27, 2005 Johnston Owl (Waterbury, CT) Scavenger Hunt is a horror classic by Pike. Its also one more great mystery to add on to Pikes work. Its geniously written, the story takes off immedeatley and the plot doesn't drag at all, each page will have you wanting more. For all the Christopher Pike fans, you should already own this.
