Product Description
Diamonds aren’t forever. After the 2008 season, the seemingly immortal “House That Ruth Built” will shut its gates forever—to be replaced by a brand-new stadium just a homer’s length away. As if anything could ever replace Yankee Stadium in the hearts and memories of New York Yankees’ fans. Memories are what this book is about. From the moment it opened on April 18, 1923, Yankee Stadium was a phenomenon: It was more than double the size of any ballpark at the time. And what was happening on the field was just as phenomenal. In the third inning of that opening-day game, Babe Ruth hit the home run he deemed the most satisfying of his career. That fall, the stadium hosted the first of the many World Series games that would be played there over the ensuing 85 years. And that, of course, was just the beginning. Remembering Yankee Stadium brilliantly and beautifully documents the stadium’s entire career through a decade-by-decade account, a priceless collection of historical photographs, and, most movingly, the vivid, first-person reminiscences of the people to whom this “citadel of sport” has meant so much: entertainers and politicians, broadcasters and sportswriters, players and fans. No Yankees fan—no baseball fan—will be able to resist this incredible book. "Spectacular new book about Yankee Stadium by Harvey Frommer, Remembering Yankee Stadium." --FOX SPORTS.COM "In this, the last year of Yankee Stadium's storied existence, Frommer's Remembering Yankee Stadium becomes an essential keepsake for wise fans who know that newer isn't always better." TIME OUT NEW YORK "Sportswriter Harvey Frommer's Remembering Yankee Stadium is an exhaustive account of The Cathedral of Baseball and a moving tribute from nearly a hundred voices, former players and pinstripe devotees alike."- - GELF MAGAZINE " RYS beats any Yankee Book out there hands down. Who better to write and compile a tribute to an icon such as Yankee Stadium than renowned baseball/Yankee author Harvey Frommer who makes great use of every Yankee and baseball player he either wrote about or met over his illustrious career. My Yankee Cap is tipped to Harvey Frommer who has outdone himself once again."-BEHINDTHEBOMBERS.COM "A stunning collection of oral history and narrative and great photos." NEW YORK ONE "A gorgeous new over-sized book Remembering Yankee Stadium: An Oral and Narrative History of "The House that Ruth Built"--BRONX BANTER "One to show. Absolute classic. Best of all the books on the subject-the Bible of Yankee Stadium books."--WCBS-Radio

Best Gift I Ever Gave My Father January 7, 2009 Samara Dawson We gave my father (a lifelong Yankee fan) this book for Christmas and I know I can now never match the enthusiasm he had for this book with anything else. True Yankee fans will definately love this book.
Great gift for a co-worker January 6, 2009 Lela Martini (Bay Area, CA United States) I bought this as a Christmas gift for a co-worker that loves baseball. He really liked the book as he had attended many games at Yankee Stadium in the past. The photos in the book are amazing and I think it is a good item of memorabilia for those who love the game.

I bought this for my husband for his birthday because he grew up in New York and loved the Yankees and went to many games in that stadium. He just raves about it. Absolutely loves it and it brought back a lot of memories. I highly recommend this book.Remembering Yankee Stadium: An Oral and Narrative History of "The House That Ruth Built"
The Best Book On Yankee Stadium December 11, 2008 Jeff Schock (NYC) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I love the Yankees and have been going to the stadium for years. Loved it when Billy Joel played there many summers ago, and this fact, along with lots of others are captured in this wonderful swan song. Yes, you can buy the ball Jose Molina hit for the last home run in Yankee Stadium for $100,000, Mickey Mantle's 1949 Plymouth convertible for $34,000. You can fork over a few thousand dollars for a prized seat, get a Yankee baseball card or a ticket stub for a few hundreds dollars, but if you really want to remember this shrine to Yankee history, you must get Remembering Yankee Stadium!!! A steal for $27.70, that's $15,30 off the regular price. The book was written by one of the foremost authorities on baseball, the great Harvey Frommer. Standing in Borders--sorry Amazon, I do shop at bricks and mortar too-- I compared Frommer's Yankee Stadium to the other book which is misleadingly called "Yankee Stadium: The Official Retrospective," "Official Schamissil" give me a "frickin" break, there is no comparison. As Yankee Stadium gets torn down, dumped in the garbage, don't waste your hard earned money on $100,000 base balls, or the extra two bucks on "Official Schamissil," get the real deal, Harvey Frommer's amazing "Remembering Yankee Stadium." It's going to be a long cold winter till spring training, so get your copy, your piece of Yankee history, "Remembering Yankee Stadium" and enjoy our great memories with Harvey Frommer's home run words and pictures.
Best of the Yankee Stadium books December 7, 2008 William Bach (New York) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the best of the books serving as a retrospective of Yankee Stadium, much better, in fact, than the "Official Retrospective." The interviews, photos, and layout are superior. The visual representation of ticket stubs and Stadium programs is a welcome bonus. The interviews and anectodes are pithy and insightful. As a Stadium authority (present at the Chambliss, Reggie 3-home run, and Boone games among others) I can tell you this should be the choice of those books saying a last good-bye.
