How can either side prevail when rage blinds them to the dark threat poised to destroy them all?

Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters) along with veteran Mortal Kombat team members You have the ability to choose sides, challenge friends and take the fight online

3 out of 5 stars Game was alright   January 6, 2009

The game was ok, not what I was expecting being a long time MK fan. pretty hard to string even the simplest of combos.

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST ALL AROUND FIGHTING GAME   January 4, 2009
DAMIEN
Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe has met all my expectations of what a fighting game should be.

The characters for Mortal Kombat and DC are great: each with two fatalities and there's plethora of combos for each character.

I'm a huge DC fan and so far this is the best game out there; however, as a Mortal Kombat perspective, the fatalities are a bit watered down.

I highly recommend this game to anyone that has not experience a fighting game, or those who want to see the superheroes in action.

3 out of 5 stars Two worlds collide.   January 3, 2009

After the last Mortal Kombat game I had all but given up on the series. They had strayed so far from their roots...I thought they would never find that path that made them so successful in the early nineties...until I heard about Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe.

Story:

It is a fighting game...and while you may think there isn't much in terms of a plot...you will be amused by the not so serious story line in the game. An interdimensional accident merge the to evil leaders of both worlds...Shao Kahn of MK and Darkseid of DC...to kreate a very poor boss...Dark Kahn. This causes both universes to merge...while each character and each team remains true to their respected series.

Gameplay:

This is the make or break aspect of all fighting games...and MK vs DC does a remarkable job upgrading its fighting engine. Story is probably the first mode the gamer will undertake. In story mode you can pick either the Mortal Kombat or DC side of the story and play through using various characters to the end. Let's face it...MK does not do story modes very well...and this game is no exception. Kombat mode is the series' bread-n-butter...and it packs quite a punch in this area. Both line-ups are chalked full of characters you can choose. The fighting engine is similar to previous Mortal Kombat styles...you'll find lots of tapping and button mashing. New to this one are Freefall Kombat, in which you pummel one another while falling to a lower part of the stage, and Klose Kombat, which occurs when a grapple is used. They both use a guess which button the opponent is pressing to determine who wins...which is a bit too random for its own good. Each character has a unique fighting style which makes replay value high and keeps the game fresh and fun.

Graphics and sound:

The characters on both sides look better than ever and do a great job utilizing the power of a next gen console...with tearing outfits and battle damage adding a lot to the presentation. The only fault was the secondary outfits of the kombateers...it seems a golden opportunity was missed here...but overall the graphics are quite good. If you have ever played any Mortal Kombat in the past then you know how well the sound is in the series...from the voice acting to the bone crunching...all is done to match the intensity of the game.

Final thoughts:

There are some flaws in the game...and some missed opportunities to truly make a game for the ages...but what is presented to the gamers is good and a refreshing romp down the lane that made this franchise so popular in the early nineties.

4 out of 5 stars MK vs DC   January 2, 2009

Once you get over the lack of blood and gore it is a fun game.

4 out of 5 stars Skeptical at first   January 1, 2009

With the last few Mortal Kombat games being better used as a door stop, I was skeptical at first with this cross over title. Sure people can complain that this Mortal Kombat title is rated T but that does not take away from the fun factor of this game. The story modes is great, however the practice mode left a bad taste in my mouth with no way to see the combos or pro moves preformed it was hard to get the timing down at first. However, over all this title is worth giving a try for fans of the Mortal Kombat series and DC fanatics alike.
