Product Description In this pseudo-sequel to the original BIONIC COMMANDO, you'll play as either the male or female Bionic Commando as you attempt to rescue your comrade Commando Joe from the clutches of the evil overlord Arturus. You must progress through over 20 levels of side-scrolling action with your guns blazing. It's more than just a mindless shooter, however, as you'll have to use the ultimate tool, your bionic arm, if you want to get anywhere. Using it, you'll grab, swing, and climb your way through the lushly colored backdrops. Each character's quest differs slightly, which helps add replay value to this fun title. You'll have to collect a wide variety of items and weapons to complete your mission, including a rocket launcher, assault rifle, flares, and more. Play overhead-shooting and first-person sniping bonus rounds to collect extra items.

A classic April 10, 2005 Matthew Smith (Pelham, GA) Bionic Commando is one of the greatest NES games. This port to the GB is an excellent port. The graphics and sound are good. The gameplay is unique because you do not jump. Instead, you use your arm to grapple and move across a place. There are enemies that move about on the map. Overall, this game is pretty hard. However, that is a small flaw to this great game.
Not Your Average Platform Shooter March 12, 2004 Tseten Rigzin DeKhang (Kathmandu, Nepal) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The game may seem like a standard platform shooter at first but as you play through you get to see that it is different. It has a different approach to the classic shooter game with the ability to deploy the commando to his destination with enemies moving on the map. Upon reaching a place you can skip to another place or land there and fight your way through the level. Another totally different approach is the inability of the commando to jump. You can only use your grappling hook to swing from platform to platform. This unique gameplay makes for difficult gameplay but still enjoyable as you will slowly master the use of the hook. The gameplay elements are great and it is a worthwhile purchase. But if you have a gameboy color or advance console then you could do better by buying the Bionic Commando:Elite Forces for the gameboy color where you get to play as a male or a female commando and enjoy additional top-down mode, sniper mode along with the standard side scroller.
