Slow, slow and slower December 30, 2008 Debra D. Theisen (Florida) Just bought this program for my XP system (also wanted to install it on a Vista system computer). Downloading the cd took forever and a day. Once it was finally installed I can't believe how slow every function is. Tried to play blackjack. Forget it. The dealer deals the cards but no cards show up until the dealer is completely done. Horse racing.... I didn't have the time to wait for the horses to complete their race around the track.. Slot machines... very slow. The only game I found that was fast was the video poker and video blackjack. What a waste of money.
Good Casino style Fun December 4, 2008 S. Brown (Orting, WA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Not alot of difference between this version and the 2005 but the 3d graphics are better and there are a few more options in facemaker. Overall I like it because it pretty much has all of the games that you would expect to find in a casino. Pro's - all the table games plus poker tournaments Cons - I didn't really like the slots except for the video poker.
Prefer the 2008 Edition November 21, 2008 Mary Ann (Virginia) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am not at all impressed with the graphics of the new version of this product. In fact, I uninstalled it from my computer and have it back in the box. Hey! Maybe I should give it as a Christmas gift to someone I don't like!!!!! Seriously, I would not buy it again.
ZERO STARS - Worthless November 20, 2008 TLR 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Please don't waste your money on this game. The 2004 version is much better. This game requires massive computer resources to run and is STILL choppy and painfully slow. On an XP system it takes almost 15 minutes for the DVD (yes - DVD, not CD-ROM) just to initially load and show anything on the screen for installation. Support site says it can take over 30 minutes on Vista. Then there were a slew of bugs in the shipped version, so you have to download a MASSIVE patch from the web site. After several hours on my high-speed internet connection, I went to bed. It finished sometime in the middle of the night. I'm not sure what "bugs" it fixed as the card are still tiny and unreadable. I think Hoyle spent all its efforts on the massive and unnecessary graphics. Finally, the only reason I bought the newer version was in the hope that the gaming logic had improved - specifically in tournaments. The old game always got stuck in rampant and runaway "raises" with no basis in reality. I was hoping this had been corrected, but no such luck. It's still just as bad as it was in 2004. This is going straight to a landfill. I wouldn't even donate this game to Goodwill.
Different, but not really better November 2, 2008 R. Aikens (San Antonio, TX USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have bought Hoyle Casino for several years. While the graphics remained the same, the game still got better mainly from artificial intelligence. That is not to say the game is like a person, there are definitely quirks. 2009 changes the graphics finally, though I don't think they are better, just different. Everything feels smaller. The poker tables are harder to follow because the cards and players are on top of each other. Another annoying part of casino comes with not being able to go "all-in" in poker. Last year, the option was deleted. While not restored, this year you can choose different values easier. Numerous things in the 2009 version are different, but not always better. Overall, if you want a good casino game Hoyle is the best. If you played it before, save your money because you may not like these improvements. I would wait until the next version when they work out the bugs. I have not done much with the online, so no opinion. I know when I installed the game, it took about an hour to download the updates (I have a very fast internet connection) because the hoyle site is very slow.
