I don't know about the game controllers mentioned in another review. But the keyboard works just fine for my wife and I (we are playing it together).
I have only run across one section that is supremely difficult to traverse. AND I doubt that a "proper" game controller would make it easier. If you enjoyed StarWars in LEGO you will enjoy this one.

This game does not support many of the most common gamepad controllers. LucasArts provides no support, no patches, and no communication about what works and what does not. Check out the LucasArts forums if you need to see evidence of this for yourself. Gameplay really benefits from controllers in the Lego games, but Lego Indiana Jones just won't work with most controllers. The lack of support makes the game unplayable and a complete waste of money. Be sure to steer clear of this one.
