Sony take 3D movies on PlayStation 3 this year

Sony last night further strengthened its commitment to the 3D format. The Japanese multinational announced a new line of televisions and a software upgrade, surely this year, allowing the Playstation 3 play 3D content on a compatible monitor and a television channel with Imax 3D and Discovery Channel.

The company, in its presentation of the CES show, at 2 am (Spanish time) has also explained that music concerts screened in 3D in U.S. cinemas and more films in cinemas. Avatar, the first blockbuster in this format, beat all records this week and is already the fourth highest grossing film in history.

The Blu-Ray will be the format in which these contents are distributed, as previously announced in September at IFA in Berlin. The consortium of most manufacturers and distributors of content last week approved the final specification for 3D, so manufacturers and have the pace to create players. As noted then, the debate about whether there would be a new Playstation 3 for 3D is settled with just an update.

The new 3D television will come in OLED displays, of which there are still only prototypes. And it will be compatible with various models of polarized glasses.

Teles with Internet and LED

The most immediate commercial bet Sony goes, however, the LED-backlit LCD, for which it has created a new line of Bravia in sizes from 22 to 60 inches, to be launched from March and will have internet connection .

Content also will be broadcast on all platforms. The console’s online network, desktop and PSP, Playstation Network, also will be accessible from Windows PCs (not just the house Vaio) and a new device, the Dash, which presented as a “personal viewer Internet, which allows simple functions in the network and connect with widgets (weather, stock …) and update the profile of Facebook, for example.
